RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY: Firefighters wanted for interviews about their experiences in treatment and recovery for an acute cardiac event.

The FIREWELL team (Lead: Dr. Joy MacDermid, Western University) is looking to explore firefighters’ experiences in treatment and recovery for an acute cardiac event. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the recovery/treatment process for heart disease among firefighters, with a specific focus on the stress and mental health component of recovery and treatment after an acute cardiac event.

The next step is to interview career and volunteer firefighters from around the world who have experienced an acute cardiac event during their career. Firefighters will be eligible to participate if they have had an on or off duty acute cardiac event (i.e., heart attack/myocardial infarction, stroke/aneurysm rupture, and unstable or new onset angina) during their career (on or off duty) as a firefighter.
