FIREWELL Research Champion: CHRIS ROSS

The FIREWELL Research Champion series profile our firefighter collaborators and their critical contributions to our research on firefighter health and wellbeing.

Meet Chris Ross

Chris Ross is a Lieutenant at the Montréal Fire Department’s Station 74 and the new President of the Montreal Firefighters Association. During his years as the Association’s Vice-President (2011-2018), he managed the occupational health and safety issues affecting the Montréal firefighters. Chris was the Co-Chair of the Joint Workplace Health and Safety Committee. He also represents the Montréal firefighters before the Occupational Health and Safety Commission (CNESST) during an industrial accident or administrative tribunal that hears work related injuries and illnesses (TAT).

Chris is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). In October 2010, he was selected to serve as a voting member on the NFPA 1710 Technical Committee that establishes several criteria that apply to career fire departments (e.g., staffing, response times, categories of risk).

In 2009, Chris completed his Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm) with distinction in Human Resources and Labor Relations at the John Molson School of Business (JMSB).

How are you involved in FIREWELL?

I participate in planning meetings that establish the priorities for future firefighter research. I also consult with researchers on proposed study protocols and the French version of the FIREWELL website. I am involved in a research project that is adapting the Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders: Guide and Tools for Modified Work (TMW) to the specific needs of firefighters. I also facilitate the recruitment of Montréal firefighters for studies and shares research findings with other firefighters.
