Grants Awarded for Pilot Studies on Firefighter Injury Prevention and Modified Work Tools

Congratulations to the FIREWELL team for receiving funding from the Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network for 2 pilot projects!

1) The pilot project, “Adapting Firefighter TEAM-Feedback Modules to Context: Building Capacity in Firefighter Injury Prevention”, will be led by Drs. Kathryn Sinden (PI), Joy MacDermid and Susan Stock and Ms. Amanda Brazil. The goal of this pilot project is to identify the unique work-health needs of firefighters in Northwestern and Eastern Canada; adapt existing evidence-based, firefighting injury prevention tools to address these needs; and identify preliminary impacts on firefighter MSK health.

2) The pilot project, “Adapting the Tools for Modified Work for Workers with Musculoskeletal Disorders for Firefighters” will be led by Drs. Susan Stock (PI), Kathryn Sinden and Joy MacDermid. The goal of this project is adapt the Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders: Guide and Tools for Modified Work (TMW) to the specific needs of firefighters.
