FIREWELL Research Champion: ROBIN CAMPBELL

The FIREWELL Research Champion series profile our firefighter collaborators and their critical contributions to our research on firefighter health and wellbeing.

Meet Robin Campbell

Robin Campbell is a PhD student in the School of Occupational Therapy at Dalhousie University. As part of her doctorate work, Robin’s research explores how occupational stress impacts the mental health and wellbeing of volunteer firefighters and how they attend to their mental health needs.

Robin was a volunteer firefighter and operator with the Wolfville Fire Department (NS) for ten years, and with the Greenwich Fire Department for two years. She currently volunteers as a Fire Commissioner with the Greenwich Fire Department (NS) and as Peer Supporter with the Nova Scotia Fire Services CISM team.

Robin also works for Peer Support Nova Scotia as their Community Mental Health Coordinator; volunteers with the Halifax Regional Police Victim Services Unit and serves as an officer in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve.

Robin’s research interests include volunteerism and occupational mental health; mental health and wellbeing of public safety personnel; criminalization of mental illnesses, particularly post-traumatic stress illnesses; post-traumatic stress injuries and operational stress injuries; and peer support mental health intervention strategies in occupational settings.
